SANDRINGHAM HOUSE
A thoughtful renovation of a Victorian family home in bayside Melbourne, Sandringham House retains its original character with a fresh coastal and contemporary interior design scheme. Designed by Susie Miles Design, the home has been transformed from an all-white house with dated interiors into a refined, personalised family home, with soft minty green gracing most of the walls throughout.
The renovation began with stripping back the existing Baltic Pine floors to reveal beautiful peachy blonde tones, which became the foundation for the new interiors. From there, the minty green was paired with deep teals, timber, cinnamon and cream – introduced across the walls, cabinetry, fabrics and finishes to create a cohesive scheme that flows naturally from room to room.
The existing Victorian architectural details, including wall paneling, ceiling roses, high skirtings and architraves, have been retained and refreshed, allowing the original character of the home to shine.
The kitchen design is a standout of the renovation, bringing together beauty and functionality for family life. Finishes include deep green cabinetry, Brazilian marble in off-white, pale sage and beige, and natural limestone tiles around a curved island. Elegant brass accents finish the space and connect the kitchen to the rest of the home.
The kitchen connects to an open plan living room, where the living room design continues the modern coastal interior theme with natural materials, including a tumbled travertine fireplace and rattan and timber cabinetry. Sheer linen curtains and textured sofa fabrics soften the space, creating a relaxed space for the family to lounge in.
The staircase design gives the entry a bold new identity, with the original Baltic Pine staircase and handrails transformed with a crisp, timeless black and white scheme and a striking striped wool stair runner. It’s a welcoming space that sets the tone for the rest of the home.
Rather than following a particular trend, Sandringham House was designed to stay classic over time and grow with the family. The result is a Bayside Melbourne home with timeless interior style that feels practical, inspiring and easy to live in, with a thoughtful balance of colour, texture, character and contemporary design.
